
GlobalMET held a meeting with key personnel from the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) in Manila to discuss maritime education and training in the Philippines and the need for MET to embrace digital learning.
As part of our activities to encourage cross-industry cooperation, GlobalMET held a meeting with key personnel from the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) in Manila, the Philippines in early June, 2022.
GlobalMET Chairman Capt. Pradeep Chawla interacted with key government personnel involved in the supervision of maritime education and training activities in the Philippines. They discussed matters of mutual interest related to maritime education and training. The need for MET to embrace digital learning solutions and methodologies to keep pace with the unique learning styles of the present and future generations of young seafarers was highlighted.
The meeting was attended by the following:

About MARINA: Created on 1st June 1974 as an attached agency to the Office of the President of the Philippines, MARINA is the single Philippine government maritime administration body for the purpose of implementing the STCW Convention through a majority membership in the Technical Panel on Maritime Education (TPME). It holds a lead role in the evaluation and monitoring of Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation and Marine Engineering and other higher education programs with the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), as well as the establishment of medical standards for issuance of certificates to and relevant control procedures governing Filipino seafarers with the Department of Health (DOH) and the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).
